Barcelona to make a worthy sacrifice, Cancelo is a key player for Flick & the huge amount the club needs to pay Man City

The summer transfer window is crucial for FC Barcelona as they want to be competitive next season under their new manager, Hansi Flick. Last season, the team went trophyless under Xavi Hernandez, and now the club hopes to make some signings this summer in order to compete for La Liga and the Champions League. Before even thinking about new players joining the club this summer, Flick wants two loan players to stay on the squad for next season: Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo. Joao Felix may be loaned out to Barcelona from Atletico Madrid again, but for Joao Cancelo, the situation is different. Mundo Deportivo reports that Manchester City does not want to loan out Cancelo to Barcelona again and wants a permanent sale to happen. The Premier League champions want more than $30 million for Cancelo this summer, and it is a price tag the club cannot afford. Barcelona could negotiate a deal with Man City by using another loan with an obligation to buy it in 2025 for the same price.

Joao Cancelo would have to reduce his salary again to join Barça, and at the moment, he only wants Barça; Jorge Mendes, his agent, is currently working to reach an agreement. The Portuguese contract with Manchester City expires in the summer of 2027.

The manager of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola, was asked about the future of Joao Cancelo at the club and he also mentioned that the player could return to FC Barcelona next season. Guardiola said, “We will find the best solution. He is a City player, if a deal is not reached he will return in pre-season. If he wants to stay at Barça, and the club agrees, he will be loaned out again.”
