Portugal has produced a lot of talented players over the last two decades and even produced one of the greatest footballers of all time, Cristiano Ronaldo. The new generation of Portugal is also exciting, and one of the players that big European clubs are battling to sign this summer is João Neves from SL Benfica. The Portuguese midfielder has been linked to many clubs these past couple of months, like Premier League clubs, but the club that has been interested the most in signing him is PSG. Reports suggest that João Neves is the priority transfer target in midfield for PSG this summer. The price tag is causing an issue in making a deal happen as Benfica wants his $128.9 million release clause to be paid, and PSG is keen to stop overpaying for players. It is unknown whether they will eventually be willing to pay the expensive release clause. The French club is willing to spend big this summer, however, due to the departure of Kylian Mbappé, who joined Real Madrid as a free agent.

Neves has played a total of 55 matches for Benfica across all competitions this past season. He scored three goals and provided two assists this past for Benfica across all competitions. He played six games in the UEFA Europa League and six games in the UEFA Champions League. He also played 33 matches in the Liga Portugal, where Benfica finished second with 80 points. Their record in the league was 25 wins, five draws, and four losses.

He broke into the season in the 2022/2023 season, where he played 17 matches in the Portuguese league and started in six of them. He scored one goal that season and has brought lots of interest, with Manchester United considering signing him last summer.
