The Copa America is days away, but Sergio Aguero already seems confident in the Argentina national team as he makes a risky bet that a ball will be kicked out of the tournament. Aguero watched the Argentina vs Guatemala friendly match yesterday as the World Champions defeated the Central Americans 4-1. On his Instagram, Aguero made a bet with Stake on Lionel Messi and put down $15k. He is betting that Lionel Messi will be the Best Player for the Tournament award, which doesn’t seem as crazy to pick the Inter Miami star, but anything could happen. Many pick Argentina to be the favorites of the tournament this summer, but other teams like Uruguay, Colombia, and Brazil seem to be a threat to the trophy as well. Aguero has been doing well with the bets in football, as he did for the Champions League a couple of weeks ago.
Messi played in the entire game between Argentina and Guatemala last night at the Fed Ex Field in Maryland. Argentina was trailing in the 4th minute of the game as an own goal by Lisandro Martinez gave Guatemala the lead. Messi scored the equalizer in the 12th minute after a horrible pass by Guatemala keeper Nicholas Hagen was given to the Inter Miami star, who simply passed the ball into the empty net.
In the 39th minute, Lautaro Martinez scored a penalty kick after Valentin Carboni was fouled in the box. Argentina were leading 2-1 at halftime. Martinez scored his second of the match in the 66th minute as a beautiful pass from Messi led to the 3-1. Messi scored the fourth for Argentina in the 77th minute as he chipped the keeper in the box; Angel Di Maria gave the assist.
Argentina is one of the favorites to win Copa America 2024 and is the favorite to win their group in Group A. They will first play against Canada in the opening match of the tournament on June 20th. Then they will play against Chile on Jue 25th. The last game in the group stage will be against Peru on June 29th.
