In the wake of Real Madrid’s painful Champions League defeat, the focus of the criticism has shifted. Surprisingly, it is not Kylian Mbappe or Vinicius Jr at the centre of the backlash—but Rodrygo Goes. The Brazilian forward, once hailed as one of the club’s brightest young prospects, is now under fire for a season far below expectations.

Rodrygo arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu with high hopes and showed flashes of brilliance in his early years. But this season, he has struggled to find form, and his contributions in the final third have been disappointingly limited. For many fans, his performances have lacked the spark and decisiveness needed at this level.

Inside the club, concerns are also growing. His inconsistency and low goal return in key moments have raised alarm bells. While other attacking players have stepped up when it mattered, Rodrygo has failed to deliver—leading to doubts about his long-term role in the squad.

The situation becomes even more delicate with major reinforcements expected in the summer. Real Madrid are planning to bolster their attack with top-tier talent, and in that context, Rodrygo’s place appears increasingly vulnerable. He might soon find himself on the fringes of the project or even out of it altogether.

Despite his age and talent, the room for error at a club like Madrid is minimal. The pressure is relentless, and when the performances fall short, support fades quickly. That reality is starting to catch up with the Brazilian forward.

On social media, fans have not held back. Frustration is boiling over, and many have already called for his departure. “Thanks for everything, but it’s time to move on,” read some of the comments aimed at the player, highlighting the loss of faith from large sections of the fanbase.

Rodrygo edging closer to the Real Madrid exit

As things stand, Rodrygo’s future at the Bernabeu is looking increasingly uncertain. Unless there’s a dramatic turnaround in his form before the end of the season, a departure in the summer transfer window is no longer out of the question.
