Real Madrid is set to have an even bigger squad next season as the arrival of Kylian Mbappé is closer than ever. Toni Kroos announced his retirement from football and said he won’t be a part of the squad next season. While there are lots of changes in the squad lately, Arda Guler’s future at the club is a mystery to some fans since he barely featured in the first half of the season due to injuries and not being played by Carlo Ancelotti. Guler has shown his quality on the pitch in recent weeks as Ancelotti has rotated lots of players in La Liga, so his preferred lineup rested for Champions League games. Fabrizio Romano spoke on the Here We Go podcast about Guler’s future and said that Real Madrid never stopped supporting and believing in Arda Guler when he wanted to play often. The club was protecting him from all rumors and never discussed any loans for him.
Diario AS reports that now, with Kroos retiring from football and not playing for Real Madrid next season, Ancelotti will now play Guler more often throughout the season and will become a crucial player for them. Not only will he play more, but Guler will play higher on the pitch, as Jude Bellingham has been playing this season. MARCA reports that Real Madrid is not planning to sign a new midfielder, as there will be more minutes for Arda Guler.
After last week’s 4-4 draw against Villarreal in La Liga, Guler spoke about the time when he didn’t get minutes under Ancelotti but revealed that he always had support. Guler said, “When I wasn’t playing, Ancelotti always talked with me, he told me to be patient, keep working and your time will come, those words gave me confidence.” Guler scored a brace against Villarreal and finished his debut La Liga season with six goals in 10 league matches.
Guler also talked about getting involved with the teams with goals. The young Turkish player said, “I have completely adapted to the team, everyone is helping me, I want to continue scoring goals to make my teammates and the people who believe in me happy.”
Kroos’ announcement of retiring from football shocked everyone, including the Real Madrid players. The German midfielder is a club legend and will play his last game for Real Madrid in the Champions League Final against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley Stadium on June 1st.
Guler, like other players, left a message for Kroos and praised the midfielder. Guler wrote on his social media pages, “Watching you, witnessing you do inexplicable things on the field every day and trying to learn from them.. I’m grateful to have gotten a chance to be able to share the same pitch with a true football legend. I wish all the best for you and your family for the future, you deserve the best of everything Toni Abi. Thank you for everything you did for me, for Madrid and for the game. Knowing you and learning from you was priceless.”
