Carlo Ancelotti is going through one of his most difficult moments since returning to the Real Madrid dugout. Although his contract runs until June 2026, recent results and certain internal decisions have started to wear down his image within the boardroom and parts of the dressing room. The latest blow came with the loss against Valencia at the Santiago Bernabeu, a stadium where the visitors had not won in nearly two decades.

That result was not an isolated event. In a critical week, the team conceded eight goals at home, and beyond the numbers, what truly concerns the club is the growing sense of vulnerability. Leganes, Real Sociedad, and Valencia exposed Madrid's flaws, leaving a team that looks increasingly disorganised in defence and disconnected in midfield. There is a growing feeling of a side running low on ideas.

But the problems go beyond performances. Inside the club, there is growing discomfort with the Italian manager's tactical choices. His persistence with Tchouameni at centre-back, the constant reliance on Lucas Vazquez despite his poor form, and the lack of trust in young talents are starting to create friction. These decisions are felt daily at Valdebebas.

The situation with the young players is especially sensitive. Endrick, who has delivered every time he’s had a chance, remains on the fringes. Guler faces a similar fate, still unable to find regular minutes. Meanwhile, Ancelotti continues to back experienced players even when their form no longer justifies their spot. For many, that loyalty is becoming a liability.

Another point of tension lies in the relationship with the academy. Ahead of the clash with Arsenal, several Castilla players are expected to be called up out of necessity. However, the reality is that the manager has barely trusted the academy in key moments. Apart from Asencio, none of the youngsters have been tested under pressure, highlighting a disconnect with La Fabrica that concerns those at the top.

The board was expecting tactical evolution and internal renewal this season. Instead, they are seeing a side that looks more predictable by the week. The lack of reaction from the bench, coupled with a stalled plan, is fuelling doubts about whether Ancelotti is still the man to lead the next chapter of the club.

No official decision has been made yet, but the rumours are growing louder, and the feeling is that unless something changes drastically, Ancelotti’s time at the helm is running out. Not even trophies may be enough to save his job if the current decline continues.

Ancelotti's cycle nearing its end at Real Madrid

Poor results, questionable tactical choices, and a lack of trust in young talent are pushing the Italian manager closer to the Bernabeu exit.
