Juventus or Juve is the most important team in Italy and one of the biggest in Europe. The white-and-black team has a great history linked to the beginnings of soccer.

"Juventus" is the Italian word for "youth". And the most successful Italian football team is named this way due to its beginnings: a group of very young friends in Turin, Italy, were fascinated with soccer, a game that had recently been imported from England. They came with the idea of creating a sports club to play that fantastic game.

‘Juventus’, also referred to as ‘Juve’ or ‘Bianconeri’ was officially established on November 1st 1897, its first president was Enrico Canfari and their t-shirts were pink. This was until 1905 when, inspired by English team 'Notts County', 'Juvenuts' colors changed to the black and white stripes we all know nowadays. Juventus is one of Italy's oldest and most successful clubs, having won more Italian league titles than any other club.

A little bit of history

In 1923 Edoardo Agnelli, son of the founder of FIAT Automotive Company, was elected president of the club, contributing to a golden era in ‘Juve’'s history. In the 1925/26 season, the team won its second ‘Scudetto’, a shield indicating the victory in the previous championship. This was the beginning of an incredible period: from 1930 to 1935 the team won five Italian League championships, with Carlos Carcano as manager. 'Juve' contributed with nine exceptionally talented players to the Italian National team that won the 'World Cup' of 1934, held in Rome.

'Juventus' continued to win championships and titles during the 40s, and with the arrival of soccer stars Omar Sívori and Johan Charles, the club managed to win their 10th championship victories in 1958. Giampero Boniperti, a skillful player, formed, alongside John Charles and Omar Sívori, the so-called 'Magic Trio'. The Boniperti period started with the 'Bianconeri' winning two championships, which was the beginning of a prosperous era in the club's history. With him as a player and later becoming  the club’s president, the team won nine 'Scudetto', their first 'UEFA Cup', the 1984 'Cup Winners' and the 'Champions League'.

The 70s also brought joy to the Italian team, with the arrival of French Michel Platini, a splendid player. He then became coach, manager and President of UEFA (the Union of European Football Associations) in 2007. With his retirement, 'Juve' started a not so prolific period, when they were relegated to the 'Serie-B', this being their first relegation in their history. The following season they were back in the 'Serie-A'.

With the arrival of football stars such as Emerson and Zlatan Ibrahimović, the team began to get strong again. And they still are.
