Manchester City is thrilled to announce the acquisition of Jeremy Doku from Stade Rennais on a five-year contract.

Jeremy Doku marks the third addition to Pep Guardiola's summer signings, following the arrival of midfielder Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea for £25 million and former RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol, secured for £77 million. West Ham, Tottenham, and Chelsea had also expressed interest in acquiring Doku, who impressively scored seven goals in 35 matches during the previous season in the Ligue1.

Doku still had two years remaining on the five-year contract he inked when Rennes invested 26 million euros to acquire him from Anderlecht in October 2020, shortly after he made his debut as an international player while still a teenager. Txiki Begiristain, Manchester City's Football director,  influenced Doku's decision to join the Premier League champions was the chance to collaborate under the guidance of City's head coach, Guardiola.

Doku pointed out that the chance to be mentored by City's manager, Guardiola, played a significant role in his choice to become part of the Premier League champions. He said "I am a young player with so much learning and improving to do," added the Antwerp born winger. He also added “Working with Pep and his staff, and playing alongside these world-class players, will make me a much better player. I feel sure of that.”

"Watching City last season was amazing. To win the Treble is the hardest thing in football and they did it. You cannot imagine how exciting it is to be joining this team. I cannot wait to get started. Hopefully I can make the fans happy." With this, the Belgian player concluded his comments.

Medical tests have been scheduled for later this week, while personal terms have already been agreed on a long-term deal. It is expected that he will make his debut in the match against Sheffield United.

What does the administrative body of Manchester City think about this signing?

City's Football Director, Txiki Begiristain, has expressed his belief that Doku has the potential to evolve into an "elite-level" attacking player with Guardiola's mentorship.

He added: “Jeremy is a very exciting young player and I'm so pleased he's joining us”.

"In terms of raw attributes, he has everything a winger needs. He has outstanding pace and he is exceptional in one-on-one situations.

"I honestly believe working with Pep and the technical staff here at City will see him develop into a world-class attacking talent."
