Lionel Messi finished the Copa America tournament with Argentina national team with another trophy this past weekend as his team defeated Colombia 1-0 at the Hard Rock Stadium. Inter Miami fans are very excited about having the Argentine back at the club as the Leagues Cup is approaching. The MLS club received bad news as Messi got an ankle injury in the final against Colombia at the 64th minute of the game .

Messi appeared to have pulled a muscle and injured his ankle. The Argentine star was crying after being subbed off in the match and many fans feared about how severe the injury was. Inter Miami announced the injury to the public in a statement that read, "After a medical evaluation, it has been determined that Leo Messi has suffered a ligament injury in his right ankle. The captain's availability will be determined by periodic assessments and the progress of his recovery."

Reports from Diario Ole suggest that Messi will be out for at least six weeks, which means he is guaranteed to miss four Inter Miami games. Messi was called up for the MLS All-Star game, which will be played on July 24th, but he won't play in it anymore.

Inter Miami has two MLS games before the Leagues Cup begins. Messi's team will take on Toronto FC today at the Chase Stadium. Inter Miami will then play Chicago Fire on Saturday.

The first match in the Leagues Cup will be against the side of Liga MX, Club Puebla, on July 27th. Tigres UNAL is their other game in the Leagues Cup, which is on August 3rd.

Either way if Messi was not injured, he was not likely to play the next two MLS games after the Copa America final vs Colombia. The Argentine star would've played in the MLS All-Star game and the Leagues Cup matches with Inter Miami, which he won last year with the team.

Inter Miami's results without Lionel Messi

While Lionel Messi was out with Argentina at the Copa America, Inter Miami played five matches in the MLS. Inter Miami did well for the most part, as they won four out of the five matches played. The loss was the previous game which was played on July 6th, where they lost 6-1 against Cincinnati FC.
