In a significant move that could reshape the global football landscape, LaLiga, the Premier League, and FIFPRO are set to file a joint lawsuit against FIFA with the European Union. The complaint alleges that FIFA's unilateral decisions regarding the international match calendar are saturating the schedule, harming players, and undermining the financial stability of smaller leagues.

The organizations argue that FIFA’s decision to introduce new competitions, such as the expanded Club World Cup, without consulting with national leagues is creating an unsustainable workload for players and damaging the economic interests of smaller clubs.

LaLiga president Javier Tebas expressed his deep concern about the situation, stating, "This proliferation harms the 300 players who participate in these competitions, but also the tens of thousands who are not playing." Tebas emphasized that the football industry is not just about a few hundred elite players; it supports millions of people worldwide.

"We cannot organize world football for 300 players and 20 teams," Tebas asserted. "In Europe, there are fifty thousand professional players. Players who earn one or two thousand euros a month or those who earn one or two million euros a month. And the families of all those players depend on this industry. This saturation of competitions also affects them."

Tebas also pointed out that the recent rulings against the European Super League and the Diarra case set important precedents, demonstrating that large organizations cannot make unilateral decisions without consulting with the stakeholders involved. "I hope that these recent rulings will influence the outcome of our case," he said.

The lawsuit highlights the growing tension between FIFA and the major European leagues over the control of the football calendar. With the threat of a strike looming, the football world is bracing for a major legal battle that could have far-reaching implications for the future of the sport.
