If FC Barcelona were to appoint Jose Mourinho to replace Xavi Hernandez this summer, the Catalan club and the Portuguese manager would look to bring in AS Roma star Paulo Dybala. The Argentine attacking midfielder is still one of the best players in his position and has shined for Roma in Italy. Under Mourinho, Dybala shined for his team and even reached the UEFA Europa League final last season. FC Barcelona has shown lots of interest in the player for many years, but his contract situation is what intrigues the Catalan club since he could arrive free next year or for a low price due to his release clause.
Dybala joined Roma in the summer of 2022, but his contract expires in the summer of 2025. Dybala earns $7.5 million a year with Roma and is the second top earner on the team, according to Capology.com. The Argentine has many release clauses in his contract with Roma, and in the previous winter transfer window, his release clause was worth $12.7 million.
In the month of July, his release clause would be worth $12.7 million for all clubs. If Italian clubs trigger the clause, the decision is up to Roma, but if a club from abroad triggers the clause, the decision is up to Dybala. Sport reports that FC Barcelona is really interested in him because of his quality, experience, and price tag. The club is unsure whether to sign him next summer as a free agent or pay the cheap release clause that wouldn't hurt the Catalan club that much.
Since Dybala joined AS Roma from Juventus in 2022, he has played 93 matches for the club. He has scored 32 goals and has provided 17 assists. This season, he has 12 goals and eight assists in 22 Serie A matches. He has made 31 appearances for Roma across all competitions and has 14 goals and nine assists so far.
