Memphis Depay's future at Corinthians is hanging by a thread due to the Brazilian club's ongoing financial struggles. The Dutch forward, who joined the club earlier this year, could be forced to leave prematurely as Corinthians faces a potential sponsorship crisis.

According to Brazilian journalist Paulo Vinícius Coelho, the club's main sponsor, Esportes da Sorte, is under investigation by the Brazilian government and may have its operations frozen. This could have a significant impact on Corinthians' finances, as Esportes da Sorte is funding a substantial portion of Depay's salary.

"Corinthians is not planning to remove Esportes da Sorte from the shirt right now, but they know they have to," Coelho reported.

Depay's contract with Corinthians is worth €51.3 million over three years, with €9.5 million of that amount being paid by Esportes da Sorte. Without this sponsorship money, Corinthians would be unable to afford the Dutch forward's salary.

"Memphis, from a marketing standpoint, has changed the atmosphere at Corinthians, he has changed the atmosphere of the fans," Coelho added.

The potential departure of Depay would be a significant blow to Corinthians, who have been relying on the former Barcelona player to lead their attack. However, the club's financial situation leaves little room for maneuver.

Corinthians are now scrambling to find a new sponsor who can match the financial commitment of Esportes da Sorte. However, with the Brazilian economy in a fragile state, it is unclear whether they will be able to secure a suitable replacement.

If Depay does leave Corinthians, it will be a disappointing end to his time in Brazil. The Dutch forward had been a popular figure among fans and had shown some promising signs on the pitch. However, the club's financial problems have left him with little choice but to consider his options.
