Rumors suggest that Manchester City could look for a new goalkeeper this summer, and the main target could be Aston Villa keeper Emiliano Martinez. The World Cup Champion is currently worth $30 million, and his contract expires in 2027. Manchester Evening News reports that backup keeper Stefan Ortega could potentially leave the club this summer. His contract expires next year, and any club that wishes to sign him will have to pay a fee worth around $10 million. Ortega wants to have more minutes and start at a different club instead of being Ederson's backup.
Ederson has been the main keeper of Manchester City since he joined Benfica in 2017. Since his arrival, Ederson has made 329 appearances in all competitions, conceding 256 goals and keeping 153 clean sheets. This season, Ederson has played 40 games in all competitions, where he conceded 33 goals and kept 14 clean sheets. Although his contract runs out in 2026, and he is one of the best keepers in the league, his injuries this season have caused concerns in the club.
Ederson has been substituted out of the game due to an injury for three games this season. With Ortega potentially leaving and Ederson being injury-prone, the club could consider bringing Dibu Martinez to the squad next season to add depth and potentially take over as the new starting keeper. This season with Aston Villa, he played 45 matches in all competitions this season, where he conceded 56 goals but kept 15 clean sheets. Emi Martinez is regarded as one of the best keepers in the Premier League and proved it last season.

One trait Pep Guardiola may enjoy in Martinez is his expertise in penalty shootouts. Manchester City was knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid via penalties a few weeks ago. Martinez won a penalty shootout with Aston Villa against Lille in penalties in the UEFA Europa Conference League. Martinez has won his last five penalty shootouts, including the FIFA 2022 World Cup final against France.
