Some Portuguese fans were upset not to see Cristiano Ronaldo playing in the friendly match between Portugal and Croatia yesterday. Ronaldo joined the Portuguese national team camp a couple of days ago as he was on vacation with his family in Saudi Arabia. Despite not playing in the friendly match yesterday, Ronaldo was not upset and understood to not be rushed. Instead, during the training session today, the Portugal national team invited young kids to train and play with them on the training pitch. Ronaldo was with them as well, and all the kids wanted to be next to him during the training session. CR7 took the time to be with them and even posted them on his social media pages. Ronaldo wrote, “Special day. For them. For them,” with pictures of him with the young fans and the national team present as well.

Ronaldo did not play a single minute in Portugal’s 2-1 loss against Croatia at the Estadio Nacional. Ronaldo’s last match was in Al Nassr vs Al Hilal in the King’s Cup Final last week in Saudi Arabia. Portugal has another friendly match coming up that CR7 will most likely play in. Portugal will take on Ireland on Tuesday as their last preparation match before the EUROS 2024.

Portugal is in Group F, where they will take on the Czech Republic, Georgia, and Turkey. Portugal’s first match in EURO 2024 will be against the Czech Republic on June 18th. Their second match will be against Turkey on June 22nd, and the final group stage match will be against Georgia on June 26th.

Roberto Martinez on why Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t play

Portugal’s national team manager, Roberto Martinez, was asked why Ronaldo did not play in the match against Croatia, unlike Goncalo Ramos and Diogo Jota, who played 45 minutes each. Martinez said, “Today the plan was 45 minutes for Jota and Ramos. They worked very well without the ball, and they also made good movements with the ball. We all know that Cristiano is unique. He is the only player to have played in five Euro tournaments. We can play with two strikers. We have done that in the past.”
