Cristiano Ronaldo is a winner on and off the field, as he has become one of the greatest players of all time and has found financial success along the way. At the end of his career, Ronaldo is the best-paid athlete in the world, according to Forbes, thanks to his luxurious salary at Al Nassr and his sponsorships with major companies. Ronaldo, a month ago, won a legal battle against Juventus over a wage dispute. Now, the Italian club is set to appeal the decision. Juventus decided to challenge Cristiano Ronaldo’s ruling after he officially won a legal battle with the club over his wage dispute. Juventus will work legally to avoid paying Cristiano around $10.46 million plus interest.
The Portuguese striker claimed that the Italian club owed him around $20.81 million in wages in relation to a pay cut agreed upon during the COVID-19 pandemic. Ronaldo has owned wages from the 2020/2021 season, and the arbitration tribunal ruled that Juventus had to pay half of the sum requested by CR7. Ronaldo officially won the case on April 17th, 2024.
Tuttosport and Sporting News reports that Juventus argues that in Ronaldo’s case, the club didn’t have to owe him any wages. The deal of Ronaldo’s transfer to Manchester United in August 2021 suggested that the Portuguese strikes signed an agreement stating that Juventus had no further financial obligations towards CR7. Reports suggest that Ronaldo’s lawyers argued that that was not legally correct, and the official ruling agreed with them. Ronaldo joined Juventus in the summer of 2018 from Real Madrid for a transfer fee worth more than $112 million. Ronaldo became the most expensive signing ever made by an Italian club, and it was a record deal for a player over 30.
Ronaldo and Al Nassr’s season is not over yet, as they have a Saudi Pro League game against Al Riyadh and a league game against Al Ittihad next week at Al Awal Park. The final game of the season for CR7 and Al Nassr will be against Al Hilal in the King’s Cup Final on May 31st. Ronaldo will then join the Portuguese national team in preparations for the EUROS 2024.
