Pep Guardiola has been backed up by his club with an absurd amount of money spent in his tenure. Since the Spanish coach arrived on the Manchester City bench, the Citizens have spent more than €1 billion on signings, spread over the last six seasons.
However, it was in the first two seasons, 2016-17 and 2017-18, that City laid the foundations of their impressive project. In those two courses, the Etihad Stadium team disbursed 532 million euros. An investment that served to arm Guardiola's defense with names like Aymeric Laporte (who cost 65 million), John Stones (55.6 million), Kyle Walker (52.7 million) or Oleksander Zinchenko (2 million); and to find the keeper of the goal: Ederson Moraes (40 million).

The first 532 million was also used to strengthen the Citizen midfield, with the signings of Bernardo Silva for 50 million and Ikay Gündogan for 27 million. Two players who endorsed Guardiola's commitment to ball control and eye-catching play, although he would still have time to shore up his team over the next four seasons.
Thus, Riyad Mahrez, for 67.8 million in the 2018-19 campaign; Joao Cancelo and Rodrigo Hernandez, for 65 and 62.7 million, respectively, in 2019-20; Rúben Dias and Nathan Aké, for 68 and 45.3 million in 2020-21; and Jack Grealish, the most expensive investment in the club’s history, for 117.5 million in 2021-22.
Manchester City confirmed the signing of Erling Haaland for the next five seasons for around £51 million (about €55 million). The 21-year-old Norwegian joins City on a five-year contract until the end of the 2026/2027 season.
