Kylian Mbappe endured a frustrating evening at the Santiago Bernabeu. The French forward was at the centre of attention for all the wrong reasons during Real Madrid's clash with Deportivo Alaves, receiving a straight red card in the first half for a reckless challenge. With Madrid in control of the match at that point, the dismissal shifted the momentum and raised serious concerns.

After the final whistle, assistant coach Davide Ancelotti spoke to the media, shedding light on what happened behind closed doors. "Kylian knows he made a mistake," he said, confirming that the player admitted his error immediately after the match.

Ancelotti also touched on the emotional weight behind Mbappe's reaction. "He has been on the receiving end of many small fouls, and that frustration built up. It was the wrong way to react," he explained. While not justifying the foul, the coach aimed to offer context that helps explain why the incident unfolded the way it did.

The club, for now, has no intention of appealing the decision. Real Madrid accepts the suspension, although they hope it will not exceed two league matches. That would make Mbappe available for the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona on 26 April in Seville. Internally, there is belief that the player will turn the page and refocus quickly.

This episode also reignites a broader conversation about the pressure elite players face. In his debut season in Madrid, Mbappe has delivered quality and commitment, but he now faces a different sort of challenge—keeping his cool under intense scrutiny and expectation.

Calm message from the dressing room

Davide Ancelotti's comments were not only meant to explain what happened but also to ease the tension around the issue. Mbappe's admission of fault is a first step, and the coaching staff trusts in his maturity to respond positively. With crucial fixtures on the horizon, Madrid will need their star to move past the setback and deliver when it matters most.
