Matthew McConaughey (52) is one of the most respected actors in Hollywood today. He became known with Dazed and Confused (1993) and Time to Kill (1996) made him the new sensation of cinema to the point of being labeled as the new Paul Newman.

It wasn't until 2011 that Bernie marked a turning point in his career. Mud and Magic Mike, both released in 2012, made him regain his lost cache, and Dallas Buyers Club (2013), a film that won him an Oscar, made him achieve glory.

His role in the series True Detective or Interstellar (2014) only confirmed that Matthew McConaughey, who has worked with directors such as Steven Spielberg, Steven Soderbergh, Christopher Nolan, Martin Scorsese, or Guy Ritchie, was definitely back.

The actor is very committed to everything that happens in his home state, as evidenced by the fact that, since 2019, he is one of the owners of Austin FC, a club that debuted in MLS in 2021. "It's a healthy investment for the culture and the future of our city," he assured when it was made public that he was joining the project.

How did McConaughey decide to invest in Austin FC?

The Oscar winner said it was because of his wife that he decided to invest in soccer.

"The one sport that is always present, whether in Reykjavik (Iceland), in Cleveland, in New York, in Cape Town, is soccer. My wife is Brazilian, so that made me more confident in choosing soccer (to invest). Soccer has become part of my family," he said in April 2021 at a press conference.

McConaughey made it clear that he does not want to be just a co-owner in soccer, but wants to leave a legacy in the sport, making it clear that he will not just be an image of the team.

The actor constantly supports the team

Whenever he gets the chance, he is always at the Q2 Stadium in the Texan capital to fire up the fans, as he did in his match against FC Cincinnati, which ended in a 5-0 victory for the home side.

But the show undoubtedly began much earlier. The actor recreated an iconic scene from The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) to cheer on the fans, who let themselves be guided by an ecstatic McConaughey.

And not for the first time. Dressed in a green suit, the team's color, and carrying a yembé, he cheered on the crowd that packed the stands of the Q2 Stadium when it came to the inauguration and the team's debut in the competition.
