Thanks to the goals of Uriel Antuna and Raúl Jiménez that gave Mexico National Team the victory over El Salvador on the last game of the CONCACAF Qualifiers, the Mexican national team was able to ensure direct passage to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The victory against the Salvadorians, added to the defeats of Canada MNT against Panama and UMSNT against Costa Rica, gave El Tri the second place of CONCACAF, tied in points with Canada but with the goal difference in favor of the Maple Leaf.

But now that El Tri confirmed that they will play their eight straight World Cup, the business side of the World Cup is taking a protagonist role in the building of the roster, leaving in the background the sporting side, which should be the most important one.

Not only the sponsors are pushing to ensure a spot in the roster for the players that represent their brand, but the same players are looking to find a way to secure their presence in Qatar 2022, something that Guillermo Ochoa already did.

 

Ochoa, the first Mexican player that will be in Qatar

There’s still little less than eight months left before the World Cup begins, but the Mexican goalkeeper already found a way to ensure that Gerardo “Tata” Martino will have him in his squad no matter what happens with the other goalkeepers.

It’s worth remembering that Ochoa has been the starter goalkeeper for the Aztec squad since Brazil 2014, when he won the race against José de Jesús “Chuy” Corona to earn the starting role in Miguel Herrera’s lineup.

Since then, he’s been in the starting XI of every coach that has been in El Tri’s dugout, something that will be repeated with Martino even if he’s not the best goalkeeper on the roster but given that he’s a huge investor in one of the main sponsors of El Tri, he won’t lose his role for the remainder of the cycle.
