Gerardo Martino's call-up list is now official and Diego Lainez is one of the most important players left out of the Mexican team for the 2022 World Cup. Gerardo Martino presented his 26 call-ups out of the 31 players who were in the concentration in Girona and the absence of Lainez was confirmed.

The current Sporting Braga player seems not to have convinced the Mexican coach, who has recognized his talent on multiple occasions, however, he preferred to opt for Roberto Alvarado of Cruz Azul as an element that can help his teammates in attack.
