Cruz Azul has put on the table a four-year renewal offer and a salary increase for Sebastián Jurado, a deal that is expected to be finalized in the coming days for the goalkeeper to remain with the Cementero team, according to ESPN.
Mexican national team call-ups are announced and Monterrey players are ripped to shreds
The Celeste board and the 24-year-old goalkeeper are very close to signing a new contract, since "Sebas" has only seven more months left on his contract and, if he does not renew with Cruz Azul, he could negotiate as of July 1 with any team of his choice and emigrate as a free player as of January 1, 2023.
While coach Juan Reynoso doubted Sebastián Jurado's ability before Jesús Corona's injury, the Veracruz goalkeeper himself demonstrated in the last weeks of the tournament his capacity and mental strength to overcome a difficult start when he took over the starting lineup due to Chuy's absence.
Goalkeeper Andrés Gudiño, who served as Cruz Azul's third goalkeeper until last year, will return to the Cementero team on June 2 when the team reports for preseason training.
According to ESPN, the decision to bring back Gudiño from Tepatitlán of the Liga de Expansión MX is due to Jesús Corona's chronic injury to the patellar tendon in his right knee. Therefore, the three goalkeepers will fight for the starting lineup for La Máquina in the Apertura 2022, unless Jurado or Corona receive a better financial and/or life offer to continue their careers at another club.
Jesús Corona renewed his contract with Cruz Azul in July 2021, after winning the ninth league title, and was thus tied to the La Noria-based team until 2023. Today, a year away from the end of his contract, nothing is set in stone for the goalkeeper's soccer future.
The goalkeeper did not finish the season between the posts due to an injury that sidelined him since matchday 9.
A source revealed to "Mediotiempo" said that the 41-year-old goalkeeper "has other options on the horizon", which means he joins the list of possible players who could leave the team this summer, along with Adrián Aldrete, José Joaquín "Shaggy" Martínez and José Joaquín "Shaggy" Martínez.
Chuy participated in nine games in the Clausura 2022, accumulating 810 minutes, and only received one yellow card. He conceded 16 goals and won five games with La Máquina.
