Germany fans were very upset to see their national team be eliminated from the EUROS at their home ground but had hope for the next World Cup because of the way the national team performed well in the competition this summer. As the tournament went on, Germany became one of the favorites to win the EUROS but was eliminated by Spain in the quarterfinals of the competition. One of the best players on the national team was Jamal Musiala, who was also one of the best players in the whole tournament. Despite being eliminated from the competition, Musiala is still among the top goalscorers of the EUROS with three goals. Other players that have three goals are Cody Gakpo, Dani Olmo, Ivan Schranz, Harry Kane, and Georges Mikautadze. Musiala's role model for these incredible performances with Germany and Bayern Munich is Lionel Messi. Musiala said, "Messi was always my role model growing up. I always watched his games and admired him for his game."
Musiala wore the number 10 jersey for Germany during the EUROS, and he felt honored to wear it. It was also a number that Messi had worn throughout most of his career. Musiala said, "I think that the number 10 has been a dream for me to wear since I was young, everytime I used to see Messi wearing that number. It is really special to be able to wear it."
Musiala was asked in the past about the comparisons between Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, but the German midfielder always picked the Argentine legend. Musiala said, "I loved the Clásicos between Ronaldo and Messi. Despite all my appreciation for Cristiano, I'm 'Team Messi'. Messi is my role model. He has scored so many goals, he has won so many titles.. and he never changed. He remained faithful to his principles!"
Jamal Musiala scored three goals with Germany at the EUROS, and he scored in the opener of the tournament as Germany won 5-1 against Scotland. Musiala also scored against Hungary and against Denmark in the Round of 16.
