Lionel Messi was close to leave Barcelona in last summer's transfer window. The 33-year-old Argentinian was not going through one of the best moments of his career at the Spanish club and therefore he wanted a change. However, Josep Maria Bartomeu wouldn't let him go.

Now things have changed: Bartomeu has resigned as president of the club because the Catalan government did not allow him to avoid a motion of no confidence pulled against him. Now everything seems to point out that Messi will remain in the club. Moreover, vefore leaving FC Barcelona Bartomeu made a final wish.

At a press conference, Bartomeu assured that everyone had to do everything possible to make Lionel Messi as happy as he had been during his final years in the Spanish club. He said that even though his relationship with the best soccer player of the world has collapsed lately, he wish to see him happy.

Now, Bartomeu's wish seems to have come true. Since he resigned as president of Barcelona, Messi is happier. That can be seen in the smiles shown during training and at games. Furthermore, Barcelona beat Juventus 2-0 in the Champions League 24 hours after Bartomeu's resignation. It was the first time in its history that the Catalan team beat La Vecchia Signora in Italy. Obviously, Messi recovered his happiness.
