Inter Miami are trying to get even stronger this summer as they want to build a good team around Lionel Messi. The Argentine star already has Luis Suarez, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets, who have been great friends since their time together at FC Barcelona. Now, a target they want to sign is Messi’s teammate in the Argentina national team, Angel Di Maria. Di Maria is a free agent after his time at Benfica last season came to an end. He is looking for a new club next season, and Inter Miami may sign him after the Copa America. His boyhood club, Rosario Central, is also interested in him, but due to safety reasons, a move to Inter Miami seems to be the correct move for him. ESPN Argentina reports that Di Maria has reached a financial agreement with Inter Miami. The club is waiting for his response, ‘going now in June or in January.’

Diario Ole reports that Di Maria is currently on vacation with his family in Dubai, but he is not thinking about his future. He is focused on relaxing with his family for a little while and then getting fit enough to prepare for the Copa America, which he earned a call-up. Reports suggested that Di Maria was set to join Rosario Central this summer after the Copa America, but there are threats against him that may stop him from returning to his boyhood club.

Di Maria seems to be at Inter Miami soon, regardless of whether he joins right after Copa America or early next year. Di Maria is 36 years old, and he still looks to be at a high level based on his numbers at Benfica this past season. This season, he played a total of 48 matches with Benfica across all competitions, scoring 17 goals and providing 15 assists.

Copa America is Di Maria’s last tournament with Argentina

Di Maria is close to retiring from the Argentina national team as the Copa America 2024 will be the last international tournament he will represent his country. The winger revealed it last year as he said, “I will leave Argentina national team after Copa América — it’s over for me. I hugged Messi at PSG and told him: the only thing I’m grateful for is to have been able to play with you in a club, to be able to see you every day.”
