Copa America is the main focus for Lionel Messi and the Argentina national team this summer as they can go back-to-back in the competition after winning it in 2021. While Messi is focused on the international level, he will be missing games with Inter Miami as the MLS season will still go on during the Copa America. Inter Miami played away from home yesterday at Sabaru Park against the Philadelphia Union. Inter Miami will not have Messi and Luis Suarez for a month, but they defeated Philadelphia Union 2-1. The goalscorers for Inter Miami were Julian Gressel and Leo Afonso, and the team remained first in the MLS Eastern Conference. After 19 league games played, Inter Miami has 38 points, with a record of 11 wins, five draws, and three losses. Philadelphia Union is 8th after 17 games played, where they have 20 points and a record of four wins, eight draws, and five losses.
The star players that were playing for Inter Miami were Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets. Inter Miami had a difficult game as they conceded in the third minute of the match. To make things worse, Inter Miami had two red cards and played with nine men. David Ruiz received a second yellow card in the 69th minute, and in the 84th minute, Tomas Aviles received a second yellow card; both were sent off.
Inter Miami will play again this week as they take on the MLS champion, the Columbus Crew. They will play at the Chase Stadium in Miami, a day before Copa America. During the Copa America, Inter Miami has three games in the MLS and then another one three days after the Copa America final.
Once the Copa America tournament ends, Lionel Messi will go back to play for Inter Miami. When he comes back, he will not be playing in the MLS. On July 27th, Inter Miami will be playing in the Leagues Cup, a competition filled with MLS and Liga MX teams. Inter Miami won this competition last summer, and Messi played for them. The first game will be against the Liga MX team, Club Puebla.
