The Champions League trophy went to Real Madrid last night as the team won its 15th title of the competition in its history. Real Madrid continues to dominate the European scene, and the team will continue to get stronger ahead of next season. Despite the team getting stronger, a couple of players may be exiting the club this summer. One of those players is the Real Madrid captain, Nacho Fernandez. His contract expires on June 30th, and many are unsure whether the club will renew his contract or the player will choose to leave. Nacho is reportedly interested in moving to the MLS and potentially playing with Lionel Messi at Inter Miami. Now, MARCA reports that Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly called Nacho to convince him to join Al Nassr. Nacho seems open to trying a different environment from Europe after winning his second Champions League trophy with Real Madrid, and the possibility of joining Al Nassr is real, especially if Ronaldo personally called him to join.
Nacho spoke after the Champions League Final, and when asked about his future, he did not want to give any information about his situation. What he did talk about was the emotion he felt about winning another Champions League trophy. Nacho said, “Tremendous, this is tremendous. A lifetime of dedication to this club. It costs a lot to get these things. Today is the happiest day of my life, without a doubt. It is the most special, being captain, for my lifelong dedication to this club. Dreams come true and today is undoubtedly one of the best.”
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez was also asked about Nacho’s future at the club, and even he doesn’t know what will happen. Perez said, “I don’t know what Nacho will do, you have to ask him. We would be happy if he stayed.”
Nacho could potentially have played his last game for Real Madrid, and he has had a tremendous career with his boyhood club. The Spanish defender has played a total of 364 matches for the club, scoring 16 goals and providing 10 assists. He won six Champions League, five FIFA Club World Cups, four La Liga titles, four UEFA Super Cups, two Copa Del Reys, and five Spanish Super Cups.
