David Beckham is the co-owner of Inter Miami in the MLS, and he shocked the football world when the club was able to sign Lionel Messi last summer. Messi left PSG last summer, and many expected the Argentine star to play in another club in Europe, like a return to FC Barcelona or even a return to Argentina. Messi was repeatedly offered a big contract in Saudi Arabia, but in the end, he chose to play in the United States with Inter Miami. Many were surprised that Messi chose to play in the MLS over receiving a huge salary to play in Saudi Arabia. Beckham was in the Smartless Podcast and revealed that Messi was smart enough to pick to play in the USA over playing in Saudi Arabia. Beckham revealed that the market is bigger in the United States, and this proposal is what could convince Cristiano Ronaldo to join the MLS club as well.

Beckham said that Messi’s big influence on moving to the United States was how the Englishman lived in the US with his family. Beckham said, “Many players wanted to go to Saudi Arabia at the time, and he had many offers on the table. But Messi is very smart; he knows how huge the American market is and the opportunities that can be obtained. I think he also saw the life that my children, my wife, and I lived in Los Angeles. This was his decision.”

Ronaldo is big on family, and he wants to have their accommodation to be almost perfect. It has been phenomenal for Ronaldo’s family in Saudi Arabia as the Portuguese star takes them to luxurious places. Ronaldo’s contract with Al Nassr expires in the summer of 2025, while Messi’s contract with Inter Miami expires in December 2025. Beckham hoped to convince Ronaldo of the lifestyle in Miami and the high market the US has compared to Saudi Arabia.

Beckham spoke more about Messi’s desire to join Inter Miami and the co-owner of the MLS club. Beckham said that Messi told him years ago about Miami and said, “He turned round to me many years ago and he said, ‘I love Miami. One day I wanna live in Miami.’ And it stuck in my head and I thought I’m gonna make that happen one day.”
