Football fans aren't sure to see the likes of Lionel Messi cross a touchline anytime soon but that hasn't stopped casual supporters, diehards, and pundits alike from declaring the next best thing at every glimmer of brilliance. Two of the next generation of ‘GOAT' in waiting play their football in the same competitions as La Pulga but the 35-year-old's class still shines through.

In England Erling Haaland has continued to add to his legend banging in the goals easy as you like at the tip of the spear for Manchester City. In his debut Premier League season Haaland's scored 17 goals in just 11 games adding three assists to his goal involvement tally. In the Champions League Haaland's five goals make him well worth the cash splashed on Manchester's sky-blue side.

Mbappe spends his days in close proximity to the seven-time Ballon D'or winner but is doing his best to come out from under the shadow of the veteran. Mbappe leads Ligue 1 with 10 goals he's also teed up two assists this term. He also leads the scoring in the Champion's League on par with Mo Sallah on 6 goals in five matches.

In the twilight of his career, the kid from Rosario is aging like a fine vintage and continues to defy definition by becoming more of an all-round threat. Messi's scored four goals in four while providing three assists in the Champions League, and also contributed six  goals and a league-leading nine assists in France. That's more goal involvement in Champions League than Haaland (7-5) and more than Mbappe in Ligue (15-12) not too bad for an old guy, huh?!
