Not even the arrival of Xavi Hernández to FC Barcelona’s dugout prevented that the Blaugranas  from finishing the current season without a single title, as they were eliminated in semifinals of Copa del Rey and Supercopa de España by Athletic Bilbao in both tournaments.

As if that wasn’t enough, they weren’t able to make it into the knockout stage of the Champions League and had to settle for UEFA Europa League, where they were eliminated by Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt in the quarterfinals.

The awful start that the team had during the first half of the season prevented them from fighting for La Liga, as they never had possibilities of reaching Real Madrid, leaving them in second place for the 2021-22 season and extending Barcelona’s streak to three years without a La Liga title.

Xavi Hernández knows that Barcelona will have to improve their roster if they don’t want to have another season without a title, which is why he’s already planning which arrivals and departures they will have during the summer.

Barcelona is looking to part ways with Sergiño Dest

One of the movements that Xavi Hernández has agreed to is to sell United States international Sergiño Dest as in the end he didn’t convince the Spanish coach that he was essential for both his gameplan and the roster, according to reports from Diario AS.

His departure from the Blaugrana squad leaves a spot to be filled, as they are still looking for a player that can fill the right-back position. For now, they are in conversations with César Azpilicueta, although they haven’t closed the deal.

If Azpilicueta doesn’t join Barcelona, Jesús Manuel “Tecatito” Corona becomes a viable option, as he has established as an essential player for Sevilla FC in the past semester, showing that he didn’t need an adaptation period to Spanish soccer.

How much will Barcelona have to pay for him?

Back in 2020, Barcelona were close to signing “Tecatito” Corona, but they decided to acquire Dest instead given that his market value was lower than Corona’s. Now that he’ll leave, if the Blaugranas were to acquire will the Mexico international, they will have to pay up to $21 million.
