Mexico National Team will define their future on Sunday evening when they visit Honduras in Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano, as a victory against La H will finally give them the ticket to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

With just two games left to be played, the Aztec squad hasn’t been able to ensure their presence in Qatar 2022, as they have let points scape on the past two CONCACAF Qualifiers match windows, especially in November, when they lost two games in a row.

But if that wasn’t enough, after the scoreless draw against USMNT on Thursday night, El Tri has now been unable to beat the Stars and Stripes for four straight games for the first time in history, a stat that will forever be linked to Gerardo “Tata” Martino’s stint.

That’s why if El Tri doesn’t manage to get their ticket to Qatar as soon as possible, FMF will part ways with the Argentine coach, as he jeopardized the presence of the Aztecs in the World Cup, although if Martino is sacked, he won’t leave El Tri alone.

Who is the player that will leave with Martino?

According to reports from sports journalist Rubén Rodríguez, Andrés Guardado will leave El Tri alongside Martino, as he knows that his time with El Tri is over, given that he can’t compete during the 90 minutes of the game at the level required.

For now, it seems difficult that the Aztec squad doesn’t arrive in Qatar, as only a calamity will prevent them from playing their 8th straight World Cup, which means that Gerardo Martino most likely be the coach that will be in El Tri’s dugout in November.

But the same report suggests that, even if the Mexican Football Federation were considering extending Martino’s contract until 2026, given the recent results they will part ways with him once Qatar 2022 is over, the perfect time for Guardado to also leave El Tri.

Guardado’s numbers with El Tri

Andrés Guardado debuted with El Tri in 2005, on a friendly match against Hungary that El Tri won by a 2-0 score. Since then, the 36-year-old midfielder has played a total of 173 games, where he’s scored 28 goals and has assisted 31 times.
