Mexico National Team hasn’t secured their ticket to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, but they’re close. If they manage to beat USMNT on March 24 in Estadio Azteca, as that not only will mean that El Tri will become the second place in CONCACAF Qualifiers, but also because Honduras and El Salvador are must-win games, given the poor results they’ve have this World Cup cycle.

Hirving Lozano could give Mexico National Team their next coach

Even if Gerardo “Tata” Martino has been criticized for the lack of variants he has on El Tri roster, as he calls the same players and his substitutions look almost systematically, he hasn’t showed any signs of changing his coaching system, although the need of another striker might change that.

For the upcoming FIFA match window, it’s clear that neither Rogelio Funes Mori nor Henry Martín have the capabilities that El Tri needs in the offensive side if Raúl Jiménez is not on the pitch, which is why he might consider giving Javier “Chicharito” Hernández a new chance.

Who will be the player that lose his place in El Tri?

Reports suggest that “Chicharito” Hernández and “Tata” Martino already had conversations about his potential return to El Tri, as he hasn’t played with the Aztec squad since 2019. Although “Chicharito” might not be part of the last FIFA match window, he might have a place in the final roster.

But if he is the striker that goes to Qatar 2022 along Raúl Jiménez, two players will lose the chance of being part of the squad, as Rogelio Funes Mori won’t miss the World Cup, unless he gets injured. Both Henry Martín and Santiago Giménez will have to wait until the 2026 FIFA World Cup to prove their worth to El Tri if “Chicharito” returns.

Santiago Giménez’s numbers with El Tri

The 20-year-old striker scored his first brace with Cruz Azul on the game against Toluca, when La Máquina won by a 4-1 score. That game also meant the first time he scored in five months, as his previous goal was on August 30.

Giménez has been part of the academy teams of El Tri, although he had the chance to debut with the senior squad on a friendly match against Chile National Team on December 18, when “Tata” Martino called mostly young players to have a better look at them.
