He was called to be the successor of Sergio Bernal as Pumas goalkeeper and he even played some games replacing him in the 2010 Liga MX season, after Bernal got injured and ended up retiring at the end of that season.

He had to wait several years to get an opportunity as Pumas starter goalkeeper, but after Alejandro “Pikolin” Palacios left Pumas, he finally took over the role for Los Universitarios in 2017, although his 3-year stint as Pumas starter is remembered for the multiple mistakes he made.

Alfredo “Pollo” Saldívar is mostly remembered for the semifinals against Club América in the Liguilla of Apertura 2018, when he received six goals on the second leg, which meant the elimination of Pumas after having won the first leg by a 1-0 score.

 

What happened to “Pollo” Saldívar?

After getting traded to Toluca in 2020 for Alfredo Talavera, he never regained the role he had with Pumas, as he was benched most of the games. Saldívar played only 7 games, in which he received 13 goals and only managed to keep 2 clean sheets before Toluca rescinded his contract for low performance.
