Now that Ferando “Tano” Ortíz has found a way to help Las Águilas leave the bottom of the table and be on the mix to sneak into one of the spots that give access to Repechaje, it seems like Club América has left behind the worst part of the crisis.

Duilio Davino, on pace to replace Santiago Baños in Club América

The Azulcremas started the season with just one victory in the first nine games of Clausura 2022, but in the last three games, they’ve won two games and tied the other, and now they need to earn at least six points out of the 15 available to have chances of playing Liguilla.

But even if the crisis was averted, they now have to think of the future of América pass this season, which is why Santiago Baños and Emilio Azcárraga are already looking for potential acquisitions to strengthen the squad for next season.

One of those players is Carlos Vela, as his contract is ending over the summer, after five years of playing for MLS Side Los Angeles FC, he could be on the move and Las Águilas won’t throw away the opportunity of having one of the best Mexican players in recent decades.

What is Vela asking to arrive in Liga MX?

According to reports, Vela’s main interest is not money or luxuries, as he already has that in Los Angeles. What he is asking, just as he did when he decided to leave La Liga to arrive to a newly formed team in the MLS is to become the protagonist.

That’s something that Las Águilas can offer him, as they are in need of a player that can take the lead role on the pitch, just like they did when they convinced Ochoa to join. His second request is to have a contract that’s friendly with his ambitions and doesn’t tie him to the club.

On the personal side of the requests, Vela wants to keep his family away from the press, which is why he only consider signing with Club América if his family remains in LA but he has the chance to visit them anytime he wants.

Will he wear the number 10?

For now, the number 10 belongs to Diego Valdés, who arrived this season from Santos Laguna, although if Vela was to arrive to América, they wouldn’t think twice to give it to him if he asked for it, as the sales would be much better than the ones they’re having now.
