On Thursday morning, Club América announced a series of movements in the administration, as Emilio Azcárraga confirmed the arrival of Alejandro González Iññarritú as the president of operations, as well as reaffirming the position of Santiago Baños as sporting director of Las Águilas.
The board member who will return to América to assist Santiago Baños
Since Santiago Baños joined Club América, back in 2017, Las Águilas have won only one Liga MX title, one year after he arrived when Miguel Herrera had just started his second stint in Las Águilas’s dugout, but since then, they haven’t been able to transcend.
But it was Baños’s decisions that made Club América spend half of Clausura 2022 at the bottom of the table, and it was Fernando “Tano” Ortíz, a coach that he didn’t sign nor imposed in the first team, who was able to help them leave one of the biggest crises in their history.
In Las Águilas’s roster they were expecting to have a fresh start once Clausura 2022 ended, but now that Baños reassured his place in Club América roster, some of the players are realizing that things are not going to change anytime soon.
According to reports from W Deportes, Álvaro Fidalgo is one of those players and now is looking to leave Club América once the summer transfer window opens, as he knows that they won’t have many chances to transcend while Baños is still around.
The 25-year-old midfielder has been linked to a few La Liga teams that have seen his development in Liga MX and think that he would be a good incorporation for the 2022-23 season, including Rayo Vallecano and RCD Mallorca.
