João Neves seems to be an exciting prospect as he shined for Benfica and earned a call-up for the Portuguese national team at the EUROS. Many big European clubs are interested in him this summer, and one of those clubs is Manchester United. The player seems open to the move, but the price tag that Benfica set for the player makes it almost impossible for Manchester United to accept. While a deal is still not completed, Manchester City may hijack the transfer target and sign him due to a player openly admitting that he wants the midfielder to join. Bernardo Silva talked highly about Neves and said, "I would tell him to come to Manchester City. It's not easy, he's a player who, given his success last season, many clubs want. I don't have privileged information, but from what I've heard. As a Portuguese, and as a player that I appreciate very much, I would like to see him by my side, but he has to choose what is best for him." Silva will hope to have the young midfielder join the club this summer.

Bernardo Silva continued as said, "I don't need to convince him [Pep Guardiola], because João Neves convinces almost all coaches in the world with the way he works and the energy he gives. And he won't be a very cheap player, I imagine it won't be easy to get into the race for him." Neves is valued at around $55 million, but his release clause is worth more than $100 million.

Neves did not feature much with Portugal in the EUROS, as he only started in one match out of Portugal's five matches in the tournament. He started in Portugal's 2-0 loss against Georgia in the group stage, where he played 75 minutes of the game.

Benfica finished second in the league table with 80 points, ten below the league winners Sporting CP. Benfica's record in the league was 25 wins, five draws, and four losses.
