Why did Neymar leave FC Barcelona

Neymar's father always knew he had the potential to become an international soccer superstar. He encouraged him as a kid to play football and he started doing so in São Vicente, in Brazil. The gifted child was soon seen by Santos FC, who signed him in. Neymar demonstrated his talent scoring many goals, including the ones that made Santos win the Libertadores Cup tournament.

Right after Neymar showed his talented moves which helped his team winning the tournament, the European club FC Barcelona showed interest in him. They signed him in for €57 million, making that one of the most expensives football transfers in history. He arrived at the Barça's team as a promising player and he grew with every season passing by.

Great times for the Brazilian player 

During his time in FC Barcelona, together with the Argentine superstar, Lionel Messi, and the Uruguayan scorer, Luis Suárez, Neymar formed one of the best offensive trios in football's history. Soon after his arrival, Neymar proved to be one crucial member of the team. His first goal in a Supercopa came when facing off Atletico Madrid. He scored an awaited goal that tied the game that Atletico was winning. 

In the 2014/2015 season, Neymar recorded his first hat-trick against Granada winning him the goalscorer title, with 39 in all competitions.

During the final of the 2014/2015 Champions League, the lethal trio formed by Nemar, Messi and Suárez showed their skills. Lionel Messi scored two masterpieces, and Neymar was a sharp assistant, proving he was a player to rely on.

Bye, bye, bye Barça

It is undeniable that Messi and Neymar together formed an explosive duo. Both are talented, fast, sharp players who complement each other. But it is also impossible to deny that Lionel Messi is the one who led the team at FC Barcelona. 

While both were part, along with Luis Suarez, of the most talented football trident of the entire 21st century, Neymar never had the chance to occupy the role of leader at the Spanish club.

Neymar left FC Barcelona to play for the French team Paris Saint-Germain in August 2017, for an outstanding and record-breaking amount of more than $244 million.
