Andre-Pierre Gignac had a stellar performance for Tigres in the FIFA World Club Cup in Qatar. The Mexican giants beat South Korea’s Ulsan Hyundai, Asian champions, for 2-1. Now they are through to the tournament’s semifinals and will look for a spot in the Final match to be played next Thursday.

Ulsan Hyundai scored first through Kim Kee-Hee on 24th minute, but Gignac netted a brace to turn the match around, still in the first half. The team coached by Ricardo ‘Tuca’ Ferreti proved stronger than their South Korean rivals, who arrived to this tournament after beating Iran’s Persepolis SC on the Asian Champions League final.

Despite his good performance and his goals, Gignac has undergone a critical moment with his words after the match. “We’ve faced very good rivals, I thought we’d play against midgets, but they are quite large and strong. They played a very solid match, they are very accurate to handle the ball. Now we have to rest and get ready for a different opponent”, he commented in the press conference.

Next Sunday Tigres will face the recently crowned South American champions Palmeiras from Brazil, who beat their country rivals Santos scoring in added time last weekend. Meanwhile, the other semifinal match will see UEFA Champions League last winners Bayern Munich face Egyptian kings Al Ahly, who won the African Clubs Championship.
