The record for the most shirts sold was set at 1 million shirts in 24 hours when Cristiano Ronaldo moved from Manchester United to Real Madrid in 2009. Lionel Messi was said to break that record earlier this summer. Will the Crtsinao Ronaldo reclaim his record when his shirts go on sale after he completed a return to Manchers United today.

Cristiano Ronaldo will wear the Manchester United shirt once again. The Portuguese international completed his move to Old Trafford today in a shocking £25m deal. This marks a return to the same stadium that he left as a 24-year-old in 2009.

Cristiano Ronaldo was sold to Real Madrid in a then world-record £80m deal after leading United to the UEFA Champions League title and also winning the first of his four Ballon d'Or titles. Ronaldo was recruited by Real Madrid as their flagship Galactico signing and he was happily received in Madrid.

The first record Ronaldo set when he arrived in Madrid was the number of shirts the Los Blancos sold on his arrival. Within 24 hours of his move to Madrid in 2009, the Spanish club sold up to 1 million of his jersey in the city of Madrid alone. This reportedly made the club a whopping €100m from the shirt sales.

When Lionel Messi made his own move to Paris Saint-Germain earlier this summer, it was rumoured that he broke Ronaldo's record that was set in 2009. The No 30 shirts of Messi was reportedly sold out in all stores within few hours of the release.

Due to the popularity of Cristiano Ronaldo in Manchester, he might break his record again. The Portugal captain has already made up to $238.5m for the EPL club within 1 hour that his signing was announced. It was reported that Manchester United's share price rose by 8% to earn the club millions of dollars within just 1 hour.
