The fact that Derby County are on the verge of disappearance and at the bottom of the table has not stopped Wayne Rooney from staying at the front of the club. The former England striker has turned down an offer from Everton and will finish the season with the Rams.

"Everton spoke to my agent and wanted to meet with me about the vacancy they have. I turned it down. I think one day I will become a Premier League manager and I think I am 100 percent ready for it, but now I have a job to do at Derby," Rooney said.

Rooney will look to save Derby County

The former Everton player in two spells at the club has put an end to speculation linking him with the position of Rafa Benitez's successor at the club.

Rooney, who prior to taking the wheel at Derby served as a player-manager, is doing a splendid job with the Rams, considering all the extra-sporting problems they have.

Despite a 21-point suspension in the Championship (English second division), Derby County are eight points away from salvation, competing in every game. However, their situation could worsen in the near future, as the EFL has set a deadline of March 1 for them to present a financial viability plan by the end of the season.

Pressure from creditors is stifling Derby, which has had to sell players to buy extra time (the deadline was originally February 1) and are looking for a buyer who can clear the club's debts.
