Former Manchester United defender Alex Tuanzebe, who now plays for Ipswich Town, has revealed a terrifying ordeal that could have ended his career. The 26-year-old came perilously close to losing a finger in a freak accident while washing dishes.

Tuanzebe, who made 19 appearances for United and represented England at youth level, suffered a deep laceration to his thumb while doing the washing up. The injury was so severe that he required immediate medical attention and underwent surgery to save the digit.
