Both Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti agree that the number of matches for players cannot be exceeded. The problem is that physical excess can be risky for health and even in the words of the Real Madrid coach, players are more prone to injuries, because they do not have adequate time to rest.

Guardiola, for his part, stated that he is sure that something is going to change and it will be thanks to the footballers who are raising their voices in protest, because several are dissatisfied with what is happening around football: “Perhaps for the first time, many voices are talking about the players. “I am quite sure that if something is going to change, it will be because of the footballers,” Guardiola revealed at a press conference.

Ancelotti called to reflect on the number of games that players play and even stated that some will have no problem lowering their salaries in order to play fewer games: “Football needs to reflect, because the objective is to try to play fewer games to avoid fewer injuries.” . I think the players have no problem lowering their salaries if they play less.”

There are many cases of excessive physical strain that have even had fatal outcomes, for example that of the Uruguayan Juan Izquierdo who collapsed on the field of play and after a few days died in the hospital. The big problem is that football is a business and seen as such it is about playing the greatest number of games, so the income is greater.

Is there actually a load of matches for the players?

The truth is that yes, at least in Europe there are several competitions during the week. Matches by league, by league cup, by international cups. That is, you play every 3 days and when you don't play you train. There is no time for rest, which is why players like Gerard Piqué say that at a certain point football becomes quite a tough issue and that many footballers no longer like it. The debate is established by the large numbers they win, which makes people think that they should play all the time.
