Leonardo Campana, a 24-year-old Ecuadorian striker, has officially parted ways with Inter Miami to sign with the New England Revolution. After three seasons with Miami, where he played alongside stars like Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez, Campana aims to secure more playing time and establish himself as a key figure in the Ecuadorian national team. Despite scoring 10 goals in 37 matches last season, he often started on the bench and is now looking for a fresh start.
Campana acknowledged the challenges of competing for a starting spot in a star-studded Inter Miami squad. “Playing alongside Luis Suárez, who I consider the best striker of the last decade, was an incredible learning experience,” he said during a video conference. However, he emphasized the importance of finding a team where he can play more consistently.
The striker reportedly had offers from four to five MLS teams but chose New England Revolution because of the opportunity to become their main offensive weapon. “I’m confident that with the playing time I deserve, I can significantly increase my goal tally,” he said, expressing high hopes for his new role.
Reflecting on his time at Inter Miami, Campana described the experience as “incredible,” citing the chance to learn from legends like Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, Gonzalo Higuaín, and Luis Suárez. “I feel blessed to have shared the locker room with the best, but now it’s time to focus on my own growth,” he explained.
While he cherishes the memories made in Miami, Campana believes the move to New England Revolution is the right decision to achieve his professional goals and fulfill his potential.
Campana is ready to take on a leadership role with his new team and prove his worth on the field. “I’m prepared to lead and achieve my dreams,” the Ecuadorian forward said, hoping this step will further cement his position in the national team setup.
