Brazil is normally the favorite for every World Cup they play in as they are the national team that has won the most out of any country. Brazil has five World Cups, but their last one was back in 2002. Since then, Brazil has yet to make a solid impact on the biggest stage in football. In the 2022 World Cup, Brazil was once again one of the favorites to win the whole tournament, and it looked like it was their year as their squad had lots of depth in many positions. Brazil did not live up to expectations as they were eliminated in the quarterfinals by Croatia on penalties.

While Neymar and Vinicus Jr were crucial for the Brazilian national team, Richarlison was Brazil's top goal scorer in the tournament. Richarlison scored three goals in the World Cup and was arguably Brazil's best player. While he shined on the biggest stage in football, Richarlison admits that he suffered from depression afterward. In an interview with ESPN, the Brazilian striker talked about his depression and how he couldn't believe he had it after a memorable World Cup for him.

Richarlison said, "I'd just played in a World Cup, man, at my peak, I was reaching my limit, you know? I don't know. I'm not going to talk about killing myself, but I was in a depression there, and I wanted to give up. Even I, who seemed to be mentally strong. After the World Cup it seemed like it all fell apart."

Richarlison said having a therapist saved his life

Richarlison talked about needing a therapist, and he said, "I think the therapist, like it or not, saved me, saved my life. I only thought rubbish... Even on Google, I only searched for rubbish; I only wanted to see rubbish about death. Today I can say, look for a psychologist, if you need a psychologist, look for one because it's nice for you to open up like that, for you to be talking to the person... because it is very important and, whether we like it or not, it saves lives."
