In the last decade, no Peruvian team has made it to the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores. This is why, year after year, clubs like Alianza Lima, Sporting Cristal, Universitario, among others, have not been able to reach the knockout stages. However, there was a Peruvian team that made history more than a decade ago.

Freddy García

That's right , Real Garcilaso , today Cusco FC. The imperial team advanced to the quarterfinals of a Copa Libertadores, it was the last great participation of a Peruvian team in the maximum club competition at continental level. It left behind important teams such as Cerro Porteño, Nacional de Paraguay , among others, in order to play in that instance.

The manager of this was coach Freddy García , who in 2013 managed his first Copa Libertadores with a team that had only been around for a few years. It should be noted that this Cusco team reached the first division of the Copa Perú and was runner-up in Peruvian football. Now, Freddy García revealed to Infobae that he had the opportunity to visit Real Madrid and PSG to learn more about the tactical knowledge of football.

What is the status of Freddy García?

"When you have direct responsibility it's very difficult, because you have to be 100% focused, concerned, analyzing details and everything you have. That has helped me to be able to talk to some institutions, give some talks here in Tacna, the same as in Arica. And well, I had the opportunity, which I had been looking for long time, to be able to observe Real Madrid training sessions there in Spain, the same as PSG," Freddy García revealed to Infobae. Likewise, the Peruvian coach also noted that he is dedicating himself to his real estate projects. In this way, the strategist has not ruled out returning to coach a team.
