Many soccer enthusiasts never saw Argentina's defeat to Saudi Arabia coming through until the unexpected happened. Since that surprising result, tongues have been wagging about the missing link in Argentina's first eleven ahead of the Albiceleste second game against farmiliar foe, El Tri of Mexico. Although Argentina bosses the head to head record against Mexico but the display against Saudi Arabia raised an alarm that needs urgent attention.

No doubt, the Albiceleste is a strong team and a contender for the coveted prize after solid performances under Lionel Scaloni that propelled the team to COPA America title and UEFA-CONMEBOL cup competition (Finalissima) crown. The team also arrived Qatar with a decent record in clean sheet and 36 game unbeaten run which was shattered by the Arabain team.

Early Lionel Messi's strike against Saudi Arabia had  predicted more goals from the team. They did grabbed three goals after that in the first half but were denied by the ref and Video Assistant Referee (VAR).  Thus it mean Argentina's forward line has no deficiency going to the game against the Mexicans?

Many soccer fans feel Julian Alvarez would have come on earlier against a determined Saudi side. Well he did sharpen the attack but it wasn't enough. Argentina's midfield failed to curtail the attack of the Arabian team, thus exposing the defence to predators. The trio of Papu Gomez, Leandro Paredes, Rodrigo de Paul and the midfield in general must up their game if they are to secure victory against Mexico.

The needed player in Argentina starting eleven

While all eyes would be on Messi against Mexico, there is a cogent area that needs Scaloni's urgent attention. The defence line was porous against lowly-rated Saudi Arabia. Lisandro Martinez has shown brilliancy for his club and he can help boost the defence as the border has to be closed against a hard fighting farmiliar foe. Mexico played a barren draw against Poland and must avoid defeat to Argentina to keep round of 16 ticket hope alive.
