He caused Messi to leave the team, Piqué's new betrayal to FC Barcelona

Gerard Piqué has lost most of his authority and relevance in Barcelona's dressing room. After Messi's departure, everything began to crumble for the spanish defender as many accusations came toward him following his alleged involvement in the club's biggest star departure. Piqué was accused by Messi's close friend, Alfonso Aguilera of betraying Argentina's captain. 

Now, Gerard Pique's betrayal might just have gone to another level. According to Spanish journal ‘El Mundo’ Piqué would have reached an agreement with Bartomeu that would make him the highest earning defender in the world. 142 million euros in 4 years is the incredible sum that he would have agreed to earn in 5 years of contract.

This revelation also comes with the discovery of two separate reports that contradict each other regarding a sanction to FC Barcelona's defender for the production of a film about the failed attempt of Antoine Griezmann's signing for FC Barcelona. Piqué would have been sanctioned, but Bartomeu's board of directives decided to take a step back on the decision. 

Piqué's new contract seemingly ended up significantly damaging the club's economy and might have led to Messi's departure to PSG. Although the Spanish defender is responsible, so is Josep María Bartomeu, Barça's president at the time. Bartomeu has been accused of many economic wrongdoings in Barcelona and is even facing trial for irregularities on Neymar's transfer to the Catalan club. 

Piqué's downfall in Barcelona

Following the accusations he received after Messi's departure, Piqué not only lost confidence in himself but he also lost his fan's confidence. Shortly, Piqué began to lose his traits as a good defender and his temper towards his reality. Most recently, he's been booed and whistled at Nou Camp because of his issues with Shakira and seems to be the absolute last option for Xavi's Barça.
