Kylian Mbappe's name was on lips of France football enthusiasts as he also dominates the front page of newspapers in the country following his explosive exploits in the match against Denmark at the ongoing 2022 World cup in Qatar. Mbappe is living the dream of his life with another two world cup goals added to his tally and 221 overall scored in his career.

France justified the favorite tag of many for the game after securing a 4-1 impressive victory over Australia in matchday 1. However, during the first half, the defence line of opponent, Denmark seemed impregnable and all efforts to unlock the stubborn defence was futile. Mbappe rosed to the ocassion when his country needs a savior, he  broke the deadlock when assisted by Theo Hernandez but his celebration was cut short as Dane replied with a goal seven minutes after, as Barcelona defender, Andreas Cristensen added his name on the score sheet. Mbappe however, had the last laugh as struck again after excellent cross from Antoine Griezmann.

The 23 year-old forward has leapfrogged Arsenal legend Thierry Henry in the most FIFA world cup goals scored for France. The PSG star now sits second on the table behind Just Fontaine who bagged 13 goals in a single world cup edition. Henry is now third on the log with 6 goals, while legends, Michel Platini and Zinedine Zidane have 5 goals each.

The curse Mbappe broke in Qatar

The two goals scored by Mbappe did not only secured a victory but also a passage into the round of 16, France is the first country to achieve that in Qatar. The ‘champions curse’ has been raging since 2006, world cup champions since then always fail to advance past group stage in the subsequent edition. Mbappe made sure France chalked the feat.
