To promote the match against DC United, New York City FC decided to publish a flyer with the Peruvian players Callens and Flores, which would not have been well received by Ricardo Gareca, coach of the selected Peru. Was it a coincidence or a message for FIFA from MLS?
The fight between MLS and FIFA continues and New York City FC did not let Callens go to play the matches with the Peruvian team. For its part, DC United also has Flores on their team with the same problem. Given the refusal by the two teams, the Peruvian team had to summon two other players.
Instead of trying to put an end to the MLS and FIFA problem, New York City FC reignited the flame with its controversial flyer. Both teams had communicated that the players were not allowed to travel as they were essential for the remainder of the MLS tournament. Both NYC FC and DC United are fighting for a playoff spot.
Recall that FIFA had forced the MLS to give up its players as long as when they returned they could only do 5 days of quarantine, which is not allowed in the MLS protocol. That is why the decision that the players go with their national teams was left to each club. In this case, NYC FC and DC United prioritized their own interests.
