Although FC Barcelona seemed to have lost their place in La Liga as one of the usual contenders, since Xavi Hernández returned to the club in which he made most of his professional career, from the academy teams to becoming Champions League winner, they’ve returned to the winning path.
Unlike Héctor Herrera or Carlos Vela, this Mexican player wants to prove himself in Europe
It took him a couple of moths to learn the ropes of how to manage a team like Barcelona, but it seems like he finally did it, as they haven’t lost a game in over a month and have scored 12 goals in their last three games, including the second leg of the playoffs of Europa League.
The way he managed to achieve it was by giving young players the chance of playing in the senior squad, while strengthening the team with additions on key positions, like he did when acquired Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
And although he managed to stay in the fight for the European spots for next season –Barcelona currently stands 4, just one point behind Real Betis–, he knows he still has a lot to improve for the 2022-23 La Liga Season, as they currently are just playing La Liga and Europa League, that’s why he has on his radar a Mexican player that is called to be one of the best players in the future.
Reports suggest that FC Barcelona is eyeing Mexican American left-back Jonathan Gómez, who currently plays in Spanish second flight, as he’s part of Real Sociedad B. The 18-year-old was born in Texas on a Mexican household, which is why he holds both nationalities.
He joined Real Sociedad on November out of Louisville FC, although he made most of his academy process with FC Dallas academy teams and North Texas SC. Even if he just joined the txuri-urdines and is under contract until 2025, his market value is set at $330,000, a figure that FC Barcelona could easily pay.
In Real Sociedad know they have a gem that is ready to become a superstar, which is why Imanol Algu
acil called him to be part of the senior squad on the game where the txuri-urdines faced Mallorca FC this Wednesday.
Jonathan Gómez still has the opportunity of playing for both Mexico National Team and USMNT, as he’s been part of the academy teams of both nations. He trained with El Tri’s senior squad prior the 2021 CONCACAF Nations League, but he was also part of USMNT’s provisional list prior the Gold Cup.
Although the 18-year-old already was called by Gregg Berhalter for the friendly match the Bars and Stripes had on December against Bosnia & Herzegovina, where he played six minutes, he still has to play on two more friendly matches or an official match to officially represent that National Team.
The future of Carlos Acevedo is far away from Liga MX
