The player that could take Carlos Vela’s place in Mexico National Team

It’s true that Mexico National Team misses a player like Carlos Vela, as the 33-year-old striker gives a much vertical threat than most of the players that El Tri currently has on their squad, but even if “El Bombardero” still has a couple more years playing at a top level, he won’t play for the Aztec squad again.

After being erased by Gerardo “Tata” Martino from every call since his arrival in El Tri, Carlos Vela decided to announce his retirement from Mexico National Team a few weeks ago, closing the door to an eventual return.

But his retirement has nothing to do with the end of his career, as he keeps showing why he can play in any European team, although he prefers to play in the MLS, where he’s been part of Los Angeles FC for the last four seasons.

Who is Alex Alcalá?

The 16-year-old midfielder was born in California on a Mexican household, which is why he can play for either USMNT or Mexico National Team, although so far, he’s been inclined to play for El Tri, as he has been part of the U-15 and U-16 squads.

Alex Alcalá debuted with the U-15 squad in 2018, where he debuted when he was just 12 years old, showing how that his skills are outstanding for someone his age, as he’s been compared with Lionel Messi. With the U-15 squad he played 10 games, where he was able to score four goals.

He was contacted by Manchester United

Alcalá has impressed with his skills and abilities with the ball, so much than even Manchester City invited him to a tryout in England. Although they were fascinated with his performance, they couldn’t sign him given FIFA’s regulations for players under 18, although they have a pre agreement to sign him as soon as he turns 18.

For now, Alcalá plays in USL Championship, where he’s part of LA Galaxy II, given that he started his career in the Galaxy academy teams. But now he’s just a step away from debuting in the United States’ top flight, as he could be called by Greg Vanney to join the first team at any time.
